We currently reside in a suburban town in Texas, but our native roots trail back to the great states of Maryland and Ohio. Of the many paths ones’ journey in life may lead, our tale began in 1991 after the acceptance of an international job assignment and a subsequent home relocation from Atlanta, Georgia to Singapore. Upon arrival, business trips to Taiwan, Korea, and China commenced. Immediately, we realized we had embarked upon a new world of fun and exploration. We were fascinated by the many countries; their unique customs and colorful, diverse cultures. The people were truly wonderful and captivated us with their kindness and acceptance.
In 1992, with impending trips to Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia, we decided we should get our certification to Scuba Dive. Living on the equator, certainly warranted for warm weather activities and we had already begun fantasizing a trek to Nepal or maybe Tibet... only to bring the exciting destination of Nepal to reality just prior to our repatriation back to the United States in mid 1998.
Typical of most relocation assignments, we were unable to have many of our personal furnishings accompany us to our new destination. This however, became our good fortune! As we admired and purchased the exquisite arts and unique furnishings of each country we visited, our home collection grew. Each new destination generated exciting anticipation of what our next treasure may be. It was exhilarating to search for that “special” piece to remember a particular destination by.
The Teak woods of the Malacca Straits migrated to the beautiful firs of China with a 2nd relocation to Hong Kong. Bus trips to the New Territories and Hydrofoils to Macau once again added to our cache. Hard work earned some well deserved European holidays visiting Turkey, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Malta, Sicily, and Austria. We are humbled by our good fortune and feel very blessed. As we now part with our past, we sincerely hope our treasures may bring much joy and spiritual happiness to anyone who may acquire them. With that... Welcome to GatewaysEast!
