Sumba Indonesian Ikat

An Ikat is a style of weaving that uses a dyeing process on both the weft and weave.  Ikats originally symbolized wealth and status and are believed to have come from India via ancient trade routes.  The patterns are usually symmetrical or may have an asymmetrical block type design.
