Indonesian Teak Roll-Top Writing Desk
The central area of this functional roll-top desk house six drawers, one center cabinet space with a door and four open nook areas. The central section was independently carved and fits into the mid section of the desk as a unit. The main desk Stand houses two Frieze drawers. The bottom area of the desk has two single door cabinets on each side and one double door cabinet in the center. The top portion of the desk has two slide drawers and a toprail along the perimeter. A rolltop desk is a 19th-century reworking of the pedestal desk. The rolltop desk was the mainstay of the small or medium sized office at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. It gradually fell out of favor with the introduction of the steel desk.
